2008-2009 Ski Trips |
General Trip Info
by Trip VP Brian
Olehy
Here is the scoop on trips for next year. We have had some changes to what we originally thought we were going to have but the board has worked to overcome high costs of plane tickets, fuel surcharges, baggage fees, and a lack of available seats to get some quality options for next season. We dropped the trip to Telluride because air fare was ungodly for every possible option. The trip was going to be in excess of $1600 for the week and that was before the fuel surcharge we were expecting to come in. We will get there soon but it was just not the time to go. We worked hard to find value for your dollar. This is group travel and we try to balance quality of the trip and the cost of the trip.
We need you to sign up and support these trips. You will have fun! Bring a friend and teach them to ski! You can learn on the big mountains. Could you travel on your own for a few dollars less? Maybe yes, maybe no. But you would not get to go with a great group of friends from the Lafayette Ski & Snowboard Club.

This is our annual pilgrimage to Vermont and the fourth consecutive year. Some club members go every season. This trip is run by Stephanie Kibbey (smkibbey@sbcglobal.net) for the Louisville Ski Club but it is open to anyone who wants to go from an OVSC club. All you need is a paid membership for the Lafayette Ski Club to be able to go on any of these trips. This is a great early season warm up.

There is room for 22 people to fly and two extra people who can get their own air. When you see where you are staying you will see the real value of this trip. A deposit at the Kick-Off party will get you a spot on this awesome trip!!
We have found a value that is almost too good to be true. It is a package during the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday that allows you to ski Keystone, Breckenridge, and A-Basin on the same lift ticket and you can also take a bus (you pay) that will get you to Vail. This package also includes newer condos in the new Keystone Village designed by Interwest. There are 6 or 7 hot tubs you can choose to dip in after a long day on the slopes. They have a new Gondola that is in the village so in essence, you are almost ski-in, ski-out. There are several restaurants, shops, events, activities, and hot tubs for you to choose from and the condos are exceptional. The deal we got on air is also stellar. We have room for 24 people but only could get enough air for 22 people so don't wait on this trip. Don't roll your eyes at Keystone - It has been upgraded dramatically in the past five years and it will impress you. It is the largest resort in Summit County in terms of skiable acres. It doesn't get crowded like Breckenridge and A-Basin is 10 minutes away by shuttle. Breckenridge is 25 minutes by shuttle. You can also take the shuttle 10 minutes into Dillon for more shops and site seeing. This is a stellar trip! Sign up fast!!!

The Return for a week. During Purdue Spring Break!!!! Bring your Purdue friends! Heavenly & Kirkwood Well it has only been a couple seasons since we went to Lake Tahoe but we found a full week deal that was too good to pass up. It is never cheap to go to Lake Tahoe but this deal gives you four days of skiing at beautiful Heavenly Resort and one day at Kirkwood Resort. Bus transportation is also included to get the group to Kirkwood. This trip is a full week long with five ski days. That leaves you an extra day to do something fun in Tahoe. You could ski another resort, hit the casinos, relax at a spa, site see the area, or take a ride on the Tahoe Queen. Air is never cheap to get to Tahoe but we found a good price into Sacramento and in about two hours, you can be at the lodging property on Lake Tahoe. The price we got for air is the lowest price I have found in the last three months. I have been watching the price of air and have not seen a price cheaper than ours yet. We have 12 spots on this trip with air but we can easily accommodate another 4 people on this trip if they want to get their own air (but why pay more).
